Frequently asked questions
IS THIS THE PARTY STARTED BY ANDREW YANG ?
Andrew Yang founded Forward in 2021, joined by co-founders Christine Todd Whitman and Michael S. Willner. The Texas Forward Party is the Texas branch of the Forward Party.
Why are you starting a new political party ?
Because here in Texas and across the country, the major parties have used gerrymandering, partisan primaries, and barriers to ballot access to limit YOUR choices on election day and have taken away YOUR Constitutional right to hold your elected representatives accountable at the ballot box. For most elected representatives, the need to keep their base voters happy far outweighs the need to appeal to the general electorate. This leads to the ever-increasing divisiveness and dysfunction we see today.
How are you going to fix the political system ?
We can dismantle the major parties' undemocratic chokehold on our elections by instituting fundamental voting reforms like Instant Runoff Voting (IRV), nonpartisan open primaries, and independent redistricting committees. We stand for restoring the foundation of our republic, which is YOUR right to elect your representatives at all levels of government through free and fair elections and your ability to hold your elected officials accountable at the ballot box if they fail to do the job.
We expect our candidates to support the voting reforms we believe are essential to preserving our republic.
What are your policy positions on other issues ?
We have policy committees in areas such as education, healthcare, energy, local government and more to identify problems and develop solutions. These committees comprise of people with experience and knowledge in the category and who are unbiased.
The Texas Forward Party does not force a one-size-fits-all, top-down platform on our candidates or the independent, Republican, or Democratic Party candidates that we endorse.
And we have our set of values and principles that all Forward Candidates and Endorsees must meet, but otherwise our structure isn’t what you’re used to.
We create policy proposals that candidates can choose to adopt or modify, or they can create their own. While we create policy proposals together with all Forwardists, candidates are expected to craft positions on issues that reflect the majority of voters they want to represent.
This means the voters will have the final say. Our process is more direct, and built by all involved Texans instead of written solely by State Leadership. Want to see what we’re currently about? Read our policy posts in the TxF Studio.
Can you succeed ?
We already are. Look to Utah’s recent successes (1, 2) to see what Texas can accomplish when we work together with the true majority: independents and moderates. Combining our data driven strategic approach to giving power back to the voters, with the connections to other 3rd party organizations, with our National movement and resources, we’re a serious movement ready to define the future of Texas governance.
