Weekly Roundup: Did Texas just turn Blue or did it turn Purple?

November 6, 2026 - We've wrapped up a historic election week and are taking a moment to process what these results mean for our movement across Texas. From celebrating our endorsed candidates' hard-fought campaigns to gearing up for two key December run-offs, we still have some ground to cover.

Our slate of endorsed candidates ran incredible, community-focused campaigns, resulting in a win for Selena Xie in Austin City Council District 8 and pushing two more races into a December run-off. Tuesday night brought the races for nine of our endorsed candidates to a close, and we want to send our deepest respect and appreciation to everyone who stepped up to challenge the status quo. For Independent candidates and those not tightly coupled to the established legacy parties, we know the results were tough in a cycle where so many voters were focused on making a statement against or in support of the party in power. We are incredibly proud of the community focus and integrity they showed, and we look forward to seeing what they tackle next.

A Texas-sized Forward Party congratulations is in order for candidate-elect Selena Xie on her huge victory in Austin City Council District 8. Her history in local leadership and dedication to the community truly paid off, and we are thrilled to recognize her win for the constituents of Austin and District 8!

The fight continues for David Weinberg (ATX D5) and Neha Shah (ATX D3) as they head into a special runoff election, and this is where a grassroots ground game actually wins races. Don't let the percentages from the general election fool you; total votes in Austin Council run-offs historically drop off a cliff, with races ultimately won by a mere couple hundred votes. This dramatic drop-off means David and Neha have a legitimate chance of pulling off a victory as strong community engaged leaders as they mobilize neighbors and show up to the polls.

Austin City Council Runoff & Voter Turnout - The Austin Common

The broader results from November 4th send a resounding message against the two-party status quo, proving that Texas didn't necessarily turn blue, but rather showed its true purple colors as independents became the deciding factor. Everyday voters showed up to demand better comportment and policy, signaling that while the underlying system still desperately needs structural reform, the leaders in the seats are changing. As our national team called out in their update, voters in Texas, South Carolina, Kansas, and Iowa sent a clear message about the direction of the country, electing opposing-party leaders in places that seemed unwinnable just a few years ago. They weren't voting for a party so much as they were voting in opposition to dysfunction. With our eyes on 2028 since day one, we now have more candidates, more data, more state infrastructure, and more proof than ever that independents can compete.

Take this weekend to recharge your batteries, but get ready as we gear up for 2027. Join us at our next townhall to process the results of the election and plan how we move forward into next year, RSVP to Nov Townhall here.

With grit and gratitude,
Your Texas Forward Party Team
