The Forward Party of Texas believes that governments closest to the people govern best. We support the complete sovereignty of county and city governments to fulfill the immediate needs of their citizens. We believe that while local governments should work in conjunction with the state, the state's role should not infringe upon local sovereignty or undermine local control. We hold elected officials accountable to you, the citizens, ensuring they prioritize your community.
What We Believe About Local Services
Local governments are responsible for a wide range of essential services that impact your daily life, from public safety and infrastructure to health services and community development. The Texas Forward Party believes local governments should have the authority and responsibility to maintain high-quality standards for all services, keep up with industry standards and best practices, and decide how to best fund and leverage their assets to benefit you.
Our Key Principles for Local Government
● Standards and Accountability - We believe your local officials must be answerable to you. We support citizen watch groups and committees to ensure local governments uphold rules and regulations. While the state can help outline standards, accountability ultimately rests with your local elected representatives and the community they serve.
● Transparent Government Contracts - Local government should be able to use its resources wisely. This includes contracted services or making necessary purchases to best provide for its citizens. This must be done transparently, with clear public records of agreements and disclosures of any potential conflicts of interest. We believe in preventing "quid pro quo" deals where assets or services are exchanged improperly with outside organizations beyond their normal means of operation.
● Quality Control and Efficiency - You deserve quality services, well-maintained records, and efficient local government operations. While the state can offer guidance on best practices, it's crucial for local governments to meet minimum requirements for their residents. Services must also be accessible to everyone; new technologies can help, but traditional ways of accessing services must also be available so no one is left behind.
