Statement on Texas Floods

In times of shared darkness, we are often drawn to those who have suffered the greatest losses. This week in Texas our communities suffered a horrible fate. One that no one should ever have to bear. The floods that have taken the lives of so many families and devastated the lives of so many friends, neighbors, and families are barely past us.

It is vital that in these darkest moments of our lives that the world around us shows up. We often tell people to "look for the helpers" in dark times, yet those who suffer such losses often cannot see beyond their grief to seek for help, even if it surrounds them. We know there are no words that can comfort the void created when a child or parent is lost. We know how difficult it is to reach through that darkness. Even so, there is only one thing to do — try anyway. We must reach out to those who have been suddenly shattered and left behind to deal with the aftermath. In these times, it is up to the helpers to show up and bring light to families who should not be left to find it themselves.

Our communities are built on the strength of families who work alongside one another to create the world we share. Family love forms the foundation from which all communities grow and thrive. When families are torn apart, the fabric of our entire community is damaged. The impact of this loss ripples outward, reaching far beyond what we might expect.

Those lost near the Guadalupe River came from across Texas, and their tragic loss has been felt throughout communities statewide. In these times, it is on us to pick up what we can and to carry forward our most vulnerable families who have suffered far too much already.

Please act in any way you can to support these families. For the most impactful ways to assist, please donate directly to these funds. If you know anyone affected by the floods, please reach out and offer your support and your community's support.
